The results of a race series can be calculated in different ways using different scoring and rating systems. There are several fields that are important in scoring the series and these are described in more detail below.
Series Name: Race series name e.g. RS800 Autumn Trophy. You don't need to specify a year here, please use the Year Field instead.
Series Year: Enter as YYYY. By defining the year of a race series, regular club series or repeating championships can be differentiated and easily searched for.
Discard Profile allows you to decide after how many races a discard is applied and from then on how many discards are applied per number of races. For example, to add one discard after the 4th race in a 5 race series, your discard profile would be: 0,0,0,1,1. For any subsequent discards in a series, you would change the 0 to a 2. For example, if you would like to add a discard after every 4th race in an 11 race series, your discard profile would be: 0,0,0,1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2.
Rating System allows you to choose how a boat's elapsed racing time will be adjusted to determine an 'equalized' finishing order. For example, if you are running a handicapped race with different boats, there are a number of rating systems to choose from that will adjust and equalize elapsed racing times differently. Some of these rating systems are curated by Club2Class but clubs can add their own custom rating systems.
Racing Format allows you to choose the format of how the racing will be scored, for example fleet racing or average lap.
Scoring System allows you to choose how you score the series; Low Points (Appendix A) is a commonly used scoring system, however there is the option to choose other systems. Custom scoring systems can be created on request. Please contact support for more information on custom scoring systems.
Z Flag Penalty allows you to choose the percentage penalty that is applied to a competitor that has infringed Racing Rules of Sailing Rule 30.2 the 'Z Flag rule'. A competitors finishing position is penalised by this percentage amount of the number of boats in the series rounded up to the nearerst whole number. The default percantage penalty is 20%.
Scoring Penalty specifes the percentage penalty that is applied to any competitor choosing to receive a scoring penalty (SCP). A competitors finishing position is penalised by this percentage amount of the number of boats in the series rounded up to the nearerst whole number. The default penalty amount is 30% and shall not be less than a minimum of three penalty places and will be not be greater than a maximum of the number of boats in the series plus one.
Is Regatta allows you to specify that this series is a regatta rather than a series that takes place over a longer period than a regatta. For example, this could be unchecked for a club series where racing occurs on several weekends over a period of months. In the case of non-regattas DNC results are scored as the number of boats in the series plus one. Other results that would normally be scored in the same way are scored as the number of boats that came to the starting area plus one.
