A boat class generally describes a collection of boats of the same type. Boat classes are normally grouped by builder or designer (e.g. RS800, Musto, Laser, one-design Swallow or XOD etc). Boat classes may be assigned ratings for use in handicap racing.
A class is a collection of boats, members, calendar events and results within a club or special event in Club2Class. A class may contain boats of one or more boat classes. For example, you may create a class called "Fast Asymmetric Class" which may contain boats of boat class "RS 800", "International 14", "49er", all of which are fast asymmetric boats. Another example might be a class that contains boats of a single boat class. For example, "Mirror Class", which would contain mirror dinghies.
A class can be created at a club level or within a special event. Classes created at club level can be used for regular club activity. Special events can be created within a club and classes can be added to them also.
For example, you might have a class called "RS800 Class" at club level to hold all your regular club activity for that collection of boats. In addition, you may create a special event called "RS Open Event" to contain information related to a specific open event. Within that special event you may also have a class called "RS800 Class" to hold activity for the RS 800 Class specifically for that RS Open event. This class will likely contain boats from different clubs.
