Boat Data & Race Results

Overview

When you create and score a race series for a Class, the scoring algorithm will check the boats in that Class for competitor information. In this way you can save setting up race series competitor information multiple times.

If the sail number and the Boat Class of a boat in a race series matches that of a boat in the class then competitor information from that boat is used to decorate the results of the race and race series.

Class vs User Boats

If you allow Club2Class Users to join your Class and add their boats their may be more than one boat with a matching sail number and Boat Class. As a Club or Class Admin you can choose which of these matching boats is used for competitor information when you create the Race Series.

When you create a Race Series you can choose to use competitor data from a boat with a matching sail number and Boat Class in the following ways.

  1. Only use matching boats that have been added to the Class by Club or Class Admins.

This option allows Class and Club Admins the most control over competitor information in race results but means they need to keep the boat data of a Class up to date. If no matching boats are found only the sail number and Boat Class are displayed in results.

  2. Only use matching boats that have been added to the Class by Club2Class Users only.

This option allows Club2Class Users to maintain their own boat and therefore competitor information. The race results will use this information whenever they are scored. If no matching boats are found only the sail number and Boat Class are displayed in results.

  3. Use matching boats that have been added to the Class by Club or Class Admins first. Then use matching boats that have been added to the Class by Club2Class Users.

This option will first match boats to those added to the Class by Club or Class Admins and use that competitor data. If a boat is in the results but does not match a boat added by a Class or Club Admin then boats added by Club2Class Users are checked and if any are found to match their competitior data is used. If no matching boats are found only the sail number and Boat Class are displayed in results.

This option has the advantage of using data maintained by Club2Class Users (sailors) themselves whilst being able to fallback to data defined by Club and Class Admins when that data is missing.

  4. Use matching boats that have been added to the Class by Club or Class Admins first. For any remaining boats matching boats that have been added to the Class by Club2Class users.

This option will first match boats to those added to the Class by Club2Class Users and use that competitor data. If a boat is in the results but does not match a boat added by a Club2Class User then boats added by Club or Class Admins are checked and if any are found to match their competitior data is used. If no matching boats are found only the sail number and Boat Class are displayed in results.

This option has the advantage of using data maintained by Club and Class Admins whilst still being able to fallback to data defined by Club2Class Users (sailors) when that data is missing.

Competitor Data From Boat Data

The way in which the scoring algorithm decides which boat competitor information to use depends on what information is provided for a boat and if that boat is associated with a Class Member. This allows the flexibility to record every day club race results with the minimum of effort and still be able to record race results with detailed competitor information when you require.

Competitor information used in race results also uses a 'fallback' strategy to decorate race results with information from the Class boats in the following way.
